Founding director Bree Shaw has a lifetimes experience in dance, and more than 13 years experience teaching in schools. Bree brings her love and passion of dance to children from all walks of life.
From a coastal suburb on the Mornington Peninsula Kinect2Dance was born and developed to offer students in Victorian schools the opportunity to explore dance in a safe and inclusive environment alongside their peers. Since 2017 Kinect has expanded across the country and now offers a range of programs focussing on movement-based learning (kinesthetic.) Bree’s philosophy as a teacher, which is now the philosophy of Kinect, is allowing students the freedom of physical expression with no boundaries.
Bree says “To build students’ confidence and resilience in schools, children need to be given the opportunity to learn without ‘right or wrong’. A number of school subjects have to be learnt or taught a particular way in order for that question or answer to be correct ( 2 + 2 must equal 4). The beauty of the Arts, and Dance, is that it is completely open to interpretation therefore the simple act of ‘giving it a go’ means success for that student. The power is positivity in education is boundless.”
