IMPACT OF 2020 AND SOCIAL WELL-BEING.

Can your students self regulate?  Are they physically and emotionally aware?

As teachers and parents, we realised in 2020 a lot of students did not enjoy or thrive in online learning. The students fell behind in not so much academically but in their personal development, socialising skills and confidence.

It is important more now than ever to provide students with the opportunity to socialise and for the students to realise just how important it is. Students’ wellbeing affects every aspect of their schooling, from their ability to learn in class, to their ability to build positive relationships.

Socialising with children’s peers, in a school environment, has been proven to improve a child’s ability to be approachable and friendly. To demonstrate interest in other students’ questions and ideas, as well as understand their peers perspectives and concerns. Social interactions help young children start to develop their ‘sense of self’ as they experience sharing, boundaries and problem solving in the classroom and at school overall.

Through the 2020 experience, educators now understand that wellbeing is a fundamental component of a schooling experience and is just as important as academic learning.

So what can be introduced at your school to further develop and foster these integral skills?
